Reading has always helped me get rid of all of my stresses — well, at least for the time being — and I am so happy that I am finally reading consistently these past couple of months. Though I am still not reading as many books a month as I used to back when I was still a student, at least I get to finish a few books a month and I think that’s already as much reading as I can get these days.
I recently finished reading another manga, which is Shiver by Junji Ito. Some of my colleagues are really into reading weird and creepy titles, so I tried reading Gyo by the same author, which I mentioned in my pilot post for Stuff I’ve Been Reading Lately. I totally enjoyed Gyo, so I gave Shiver a shot, too. So here, we follow nine of Junji Ito’s best short stories, which are equally creepy (and weird), which, I guess, is the reason why I cannot stop turning the pages.
I also recently read Wicked Fox by Kat Cho. It’s a young adult fantasy series based on one of Korea’s most famous myth – the Gumiho. Mythology, in general, fascinates me in ways I can’t really explain. There’s just something to its stories that just draw me in and keeps me curious. Reading something about gumihos is my first try at Korean mythology — Wicked Fox follows Gu Miyoung, an 18-year-old gumiho who lives in modern-day Seoul trying to hide from everyone’s attention, until she meets Ahn Jihoon, a human boy, who will change her life. Big thanks to Penguin Random House for providing an ARC of this book. It was released in June, so you guys should definitely check it out in stores near you.
